ubuntu 10.10 netbook

this image is not really for beagleboard rev c4, not sure about others
but its lagging way to much on my rev c4, does anyone has any idea if
netbook version has "create launcher" and what about minimal? does it
have create launcher option.

It really lag's on everything but the panda.. ubuntu's netbook image
is still to bloated for c4/xm and really needs a swap file..

For the c4/xm, it's better to just use one of my demo images:
http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#Demo_Image

and install a minimal xfce session and then ONLY what you need, nothing more..

Regards,

thanks for the suggestion. i was about to post again about the lagging
issue. i thought it'll run as smooth as the angstrom. by the way is it
the unity launcher that makes it so slow? cause i really like it. was
thinking about installing something that resembles it on minimal.
cause i do intend to use a touch screen.

It'll never be as fast as Angstrom.. (which was fast on the original
beagle with only 128Mb of ram)

Angstrom/Ubuntu are just going after different markets.. if you can
call it that..

Regards,

hmm…i can afford a little slow but angstrom was not working to my needs. so kindly tell me if i can get the minimal with unity desktop? cause it will make my job way easier. GUI is an important part of my project and i dont wanna create one. =?

if you can get 'unity' to run in xfce, without bringing in the bloated
gnome lib's, then maybe..

Sorry, I never tried and i don't really care for unity..

Regards,

hmm… so its the libraries of gnome that makes it slow. there must be some one who has bothered to remove the unnecessary stuff. =P
lemme search a lil… thanks…

Nothing fast about customizing or building Angstrom

Building Ubuntu is intuitive and yields helpful error messages

The only advantage i see in using OE is for mass distribution of a product

Building an open Linux should be as straight forward as building a commercial Linux variant

I dont see why an OMAP optimized Ubuntu should be any slower than Angstrom

We were talking about "Running", yes "Building" is a different story...

Find an old Beagle Bx (128Mb) run Angstrom and Ubuntu on it.. You'll
see what I'm talking about..

Quit, dreaming.

Once it get's hardfp enabled it should be about the same...

Anywho, i don't care, goes back to hacking up a wheezy armhf
debootstrap script..
