Ubuntu 9.04 on DevKit8000

Hi all,
this is my first post then....hello all.
Yesterday i've buy a devkit8000 board with 7' touch screen. I've read
all manuals on CD and i've tried to boot the board with Android
successfully.
I don't know Android system and it does not appeal to a lot to me,
then i want try to boot Ubuntu 9.04 (for BeagleBoard) into my
devkit8000 and see gnome on LCD attached (I hope).
I've read a lot of posts about difference between beagleBoard and
DevKit8000, but all about Android.
I have understood that the kernel 2.6.29 is ok for devkit8000. Is it
right?
I can follow the steps at this point http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#Build_Image
?
I want update the u-boot using this step http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#Upgrade_U-Boot
....I mistake?
I must recompile the kernel with other features?

Thank a lot and Best Regards.

Hello,

Be very careful, that wiki is beagleboard 'only' at this point. If
you'd like to add devkit8000 options be my guest..

?

You can follow those steps, but that *.deb file listed will not run on
the devkit8000 (the rootfilesystem will be completely fine..) , so
ignore the '--kernel-image' option for the moment and supply your
'own' uImage and modules...

I do not have a devkit8000, but if you'd like to add kernel (*deb)
support, here's my current build script:

https://code.launchpad.net/~beagleboard-kernel/+junk/2.6-dev

If all it requires is a defconfig tweak in the OMAP Board type section:

Hi,

thats a gud initative…

ubuntu 9.04 on devkit8000.

Hi mitsus,

did you have any success ??
I'm also very interrested in bringing Ubuntu to DevKit8000.

Hi Jochen,
yesterday i've successfully run debian lenny with full xorg server on
DevKit8000. It work great with my LCD 7''...but i've a prblems with
touch screen. In this afternoon i post my Xorg logs.
The second step is run ubuntu filesystem, but i think that debian
lenny is the best for this board.

Hi,

I am working on USB 3G module and testing on beagle board. In Angstorm WVDIAL is not there.
How to test this USB 3g module in beagle board

There is a wvdial recipe in OE, but I was not able to get it work. Some online comments I got is that some APIs used by wvidal are not implemented in ARM platform, and therefore will not work in beagleboard.

At the end, I choose to use pppd and it works.

Thanks Thomas,

could you send me how to use pppd to make 3g work?

Sanjeev

Sanjeev,
you don’t actually need a wvdial program. Read here and change ttyUSB0 with your serial port name:
