Using make in angstrom

Hello I am trying to get my belkin wireless g to work in angstrom
2.6.27. I got the drivers for the chipset from

http://opensource.bureau-cornavin.com/belkin/index.html

then I put them onto a usb drive then plugged the usb drive into the
BB and moved them into lib/modules/2.6.27-omap/kernel/drivers/net/
wireless/

rt2570-cvs-daily.tar.gz

rt73-cvs-daily.tar.gz

then I extracted----

I would like to use make to make them and then make install to install
them but the angstrom that I am using does not have make included I
don't think. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make these drivers
work on the BB?

In general you need to compile kernel drivers with openembedded if you want to use them. But those drivers are already built into the kernel:

root@beagleboard:~# zcat /proc/config.gz | grep RT[27]
# CONFIG_OMAP_LL_DEBUG_UART2 is not set
CONFIG_RT2X00=y
CONFIG_RT2500USB=y
CONFIG_RT73USB=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_USB=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_FIRMWARE=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_CRYPTO=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_LEDS=y
# CONFIG_RT2X00_DEBUG is not set

regards,

Koen

So I assume you are saying that the makeing those files will not fix
the problem I am having...Is there a known reason that the drivers do
not work with the belkin wireless G?

I have not been using open embedded because I have failed 3 different
times to set it up in multiple ubuntu VMWare images. I guess I will
just have to setup a dual boot on one of my computers or something...I
am not very good at this...

So I opened the case of the Belkin G that I have and the chip inside
is a RTL8187B, Is there anyway someone can compile an angstrom image
with the chipset in it. I would but I am still having trouble getting
OE going on my system.

rtl8187 chips work with the uImage that comes with the demo. I know that since I have a rtl8187 device :slight_smile:

That is odd because I purchased this...

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=179211

wireless adapter, which I took apart to find has the rt18187b chip in
it and it does not show up anywhere. Are you using some other wireless
device with the same chip in it? Is there something special I need to
do to get this particular one to work? Should I get a different on?

Thanks

I have plugged the belkin into my laptop and found that the led begins
to blink after the drivers are installed and it is recognized after
wards. But when I plug it into my usb hub attached to the BB, there
are no lights and I cannot find it attached in any files. So I don't
know what to do besides get something else or try to load a new driver
from a usb driver or something. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

I think I am going to go get one of these CNet CWD-854 Wireless-G
54Mbps USB Adapter and see if it works...

Let me know if you see a problem. I am not sure if it will work...At
least if it does not work I can return it.

Somebody on below forum said it has RaLink Technologies RT73 chipset,

# CONFIG_OMAP_LL_DEBUG_UART2 is not set
CONFIG_RT2X00=y
CONFIG_RT2500USB=y
CONFIG_RT73USB=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_USB=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_FIRMWARE=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_CRYPTO=y
CONFIG_RT2X00_LIB_LEDS=y
# CONFIG_RT2X00_DEBUG is not set

Above I seen an RT73 so am assuming that it could possibly work.

Let me know if you see a problem

So this is interesting...below references are to images are found on

http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/

This is wlan0 for belkin wirelessg Model FSD7050 in Angstrom. For me
at least these are the results so far..

With the uImage-2.6.26-r65-beagleboard.bin

         ---wlan0 does not show up, nor does it work ever
         +++Gui angstrom works great on HD monitor
         +++Mouse and keyboard show up and work great

With the uImage-2.6.27-r12-beagleboard.bin

         +++wlan0 shows up and works with the configuration from the
bottom of...
              http://code.google.com/p/beagleboard/wiki/HowToGetAngstromRunning
         ---Gui angstrom does not show up on the HD monitor
         +++Mouse and keyboard show up but are not responsive

With the uImage-2.6.28-r12-beagleboard.bin

        +++wlan0 shows up and works with the configuration from the
bottom of...
              http://code.google.com/p/beagleboard/wiki/HowToGetAngstromRunning
         ---Gui angstrom does not show up on the HD monitor
         +++Mouse and keyboard show up but are not responsive

-------In Summary one image that I have seen to work with the GUI does
not recognize the belkin wireless g, and the images that recognize the
belkin wirless g to not have GUI output to monitor. Has anybody else
had these results, or know how to get atleast one of these images to
do both?
