Where are the dts files

Greetings,
I am trying to put my head around the Device Tree configuration and a lot of sites I see indicate there should be some example .dts files in the /lib/firmware directory. However, when I look on my BBB there are none… I can not seem to find them. I need to figure out how to enable UART2, a couple of the analog ports and a couple of the digital ports. Can anyone please let me know where one might find that information and if its should be on the bbb is there a way to get them there, eg apt-get or some other way to find these examples?
I would be eternally grateful. Also, a good tutorial on how to make all this work correctly would be grateful as well. I am not using a cape I just need to enable and configure the ports as well as use them appropriately.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Ed

Hello

If you’re running Robert C Nelson’s 3.8 kernel, this is relevant:
