Windows CE7

I wish if know this b4. Hopefully this info will help out some one
some day...
Cant get Ti BSP working, got fresh VS2008, CE7 all up to date, error
after error, my point here isn't to fix the errors.
The binary image shipped with this board is a JUNK, useless, I could
buy a $50 china branded something running on CE6 and could get better
performance !
1 - IE will not display most website properly.
2 - Most audio and video format will not play.
3 - VR and other graphics acceleration not implemented.
4 - ROM-RAM filesystem, no user setting reside after reboot.
5 - No suspend/resume.
6 - Silverlight not working unless compiled in to os, same as in CE6.
7 - Flash not working.
8 - Cant install CF3.5, deploying and testing software difficult
because of this.
9 - No SqlCE.
10-No power-switch ? serous ? I have to unplug the tight fit plug
every time !? Literally have to rip it out.
11-Custom BSP or a vorking version of BSP for this board will/could
cost $$$$'s.
12-0% support from irc, trust me, tried more than you think.
13-I would be a happier person if see a list like this before, would
sale this board in a flash if I could get all my money back !!

which image shipped with which board?

too bad, but you cannot blame that on the beagle community, you
never got promised a working winCE7...

so, spend 5 minutes to solder a switch into your power line...

true, nobody on the #beagle IRC channel knows anything about WinCE7..

try another Os

Remember the old adage.... "When in Doubt, Fdisk and install Linux!!"

We are worried that there is no quality control or customer consideration

Sorry I couldn't resist..

haha This is why Redmond is so desperate for REAL embedded people

“no quality control or customer consideration”?!? This is an evaluation board that’s been out less than three months. It’s constantly being updated and being kicked out the door as soon as new ones are built because people want them. Some of the latest boards appear to have a bad switch and a resistor with uncertain purpose. I know that because the board builders and os hackers are all over this board. They’ve come up with fixes that allow customers to rip pieces off the board without losing their warranties. No customer consideration; I don’t think so. I’ve worked with hardware and software vendors for years; I’ve been on the other side and been a software vendor. These guys may not be perfect but they are way above average. And, having sent a couple boards back, their RMA process is really good. Anyone who has worked with high tech stuff knows that if you want reliability you wait a year for rev 2.1 to come out; it’s called bleeding edge for a reason.

As for the guy who started this thread, get real. This is an OPEN SOURCE project. If you want CE on this, go pay Microsoft to do it. And do a little reading before sending money in; I’ve gone through the docs a lot and CE isn’t mentioned. “I wish if know this b4”, followed by a list of complaints that all go back to one point; CE hasn’t been ported to the bone. (This reminds me of an anecdote that can be found at http://www.snopes.com/humor/business/wordperfect.asp). There’s a methodology that I learned years ago. First, define the problem that you want a computer to solve. Second, find software that solves your problem. Third, buy hardware that the software runs on.

Quite frankly, I’ve been impressed by how fast this community is maturing. Folks like Gerald, Koen, Robert, et al, put in lots of time and effort. And the level of some discussions is amazing. And then, there are the putzes.

who is "we"? and what are you talking about?

I’ll give you $200 for it if you can explain this error message seen on an ATM the other day.

Wish I had my cell on me.

“FATAL ERROR CASSETTE BASIC NOT FOUND.”

“ OUT OF PAPER READING DRIVE F:”

“PRESS CTRL ALT DELETE, TO CONTINUE”

Gives me a warm fuzzy LOL

I’m serious about selling it, I have no use for it.

Sorry, man. I shouldn’t have messed with you L

I had trouble with Linux at first too.

I’m trying to sell a Gumstix development system I built on EBay.

If you still have you hardware when it sells I’ll let you know …

Later;

Bill

Off topic, a bit. But I checked out your TQ6410.

It looks to be in the same ballpark price wise as the Beagle with some additional features J

Good to see you got it working. A bit of overkill for my latest project, but I’ll keep it in mind.

Thanks;

Bill

Well, it's only effort and a willingness and ability to learn.
Take it from a guy who has had to be up to snuff on over 12 different operating systems in 34 years or they would have kicked my sorry butt out of computers decades ago.
Regards
Sid.

I would have no problem buying a binary wince6 or ce7 with SQLCE and persistent storage/registry.
MS list their price at low as $3USD, now even if some one would sale me one $20-$50 that’s fine but $500 ?!
Evaluation Kits (non-commercial use) No charge as listed in their website, I was hopping the community will release some sort of usable BSP or binary instead of the extremely limited version by third party.
My intention with the first posted message was to highlight/warn new user who planing to use this board with windows ce.
I have purchased may development board form Microchip/Ti/Friendly ARM…but not once run in to this “no support” scenario.

Hi dezso;

By “no support” scenario, I assume you mean no support from the Beagle Board / Beagle Bone community ?

If that is the case then I’m sorry to have to be the one to tell you, but one of the things (problems) with the open source community

is that whatever is the most popular gets the most support. Be it hardware, software or both.

It is no secret that MS can be an expensive pain in the ass to deal with J

I suppose that is one reason why Linux is so popular with people who don’t have mega budgets.

I don’t use CE myself, but is there not a users group on the net ? There seems to be for everything else …

Good Luck

Microsoft shutdown their email (usenet) newsgroups and transitioned to
web-based forums:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winembplatdev/

Google Groups archives email newsgroups and kept it going:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/microsoft.public.windowsce.embedded
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/microsoft.public.windowsce.platbuilder

Thanks to Samuel Phung, there is a Windows CE community site at embedded101.com

Special Computing still has Windows CE 6 Non-Commercial Hobbyist kits
(with Visual Studio 2005).

Ill check them out.
Thanks
