Work Without Keyboard and Mouse

Hi all,

I am running the latest armstrong demo on my beagle board, after boot
up it shows the create user page ... as I don't have self powered usb
hub, i'm not able to interface mouse and keyboard yet. Is it possible
for me to get beyond this and run mplayer / omapfbpler using tera
term?

Coz right now when try to do so, it is creating various problems.. so
is it possible that "not creating the user" causes the problem?

Thanks,
edesign

Yes - easiest way is to get network connectivity and use VNC to remote control the desktop.

How do I connect to network without USB hub?? and what is VNC ..

parden my ignorance .. :frowning:

Hi,

It should be possible to run Mplayer from the teraterm command line.
Perhaps you can state what exactly is the problem.

Network connectivity - you will need to enable a USB to ethernet
driver. Then the board , when connected to your PC via USB, will
appear as
a ethernet device.

VNC is "Virtual Network Computing" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VNC

It allows one to share the GUI of a device on another machine. You got
to run VNC server on the board and
connect to it from the PC using a VNC client. It might not be very
fast , but should be usable enough.

Hello Rajvi

Hi all,

you can try to start mplayer from the command line:
export DISPLAY=:0
mplayer blabla

but besides that there is no “easy” way.

One cool and not to hard way could be to write a command line application
that generates/forwards the mouse and keyboard events

you would be looking into grabbing the serial input and forwarding the events using the uinput layer.
something like stated here http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-input@vger.kernel.org/msg00063.html

The other possible alternative would be to run ip over your serial “ppp or sip” and use rmouse and/or synergy
