xorg.conf

Hello there

I am trying to get a USB Displaylink screen working on a Beagleboard
XM running xfce4.
In the past on Ubuntu PCs I have run:
X -configure
to produce a xorg.conf file where I can add the settings for the new
screen.

On the Beagleboard I am first running:
stop gdm
to shut down the X server
then:
X -configure
But the Beaglboard the command fails with:
"No devices to configure. Configuration failed"

Please can I have to help getting "X -configure" to work or how to get
a USB displaylink device working on the XM, or both.

Thanks in advance
