does this device add more ram to the beagleboard?
There are several POP memory options for the OMAP 35xx processor, mostly
available from Micron (no, not on their website, large qty only). In order
to use the one listed by Digi-key you would have to remove the BGA OMAP chip
from the board and replace it with the one using the new POP memory, a
daunting task if you don't have the specialized equipment for it. Otherwise
it's approximately a 98.327% probability you will trash the Beagle board.

That is the chip used on rev C Beagle boards. 2G bits == 256M bytes.

It is impossible to add more memory to the board.
Secondly this is a 256MB RAM and 512MB NAND POP chip from Micron
Digikey isn't that great at distinguishing between GB and Gb
=>
Compared to Rev Bx it's double up on both NAND and DDR
Compared to Rev C2 it's double up on NAND but the same amount of DDR
=> No gain compared to Rev C2...

PS: And a Jack wrote a memory change will most likely require an OMAP change
as well...
Is the temperature needed to remove the PoP higher or lower than for
the rest of the board? Maybe you could do it in a toaster oven with
temperature control.

from Micron

Don't even try - You will get into trouble, although having the right
equipment the operation isn't that difficult. Temperature profile for rework
is the same as for the other components - Normal ROHS compliant solder is
used AFAIK...

Micron has several POP parts for the OMAp, including RAM only parts, but
these are not user-installable parts for a Beagle board. They aren't on the
Micron website because (according to the Micron salesman) they are getting a
lot of calls from Beagle board owners looking to upgrade.
For all practical purposes it IS impossible to upgrade the memory on the
Beagle, unless you are assembling the board yourself and substitute a
different OMAP/POP combination. Replacing OMAP or POP BGAs in the field
just ain't gonna happen (the exception being those with the rework stations,
who dont have to ask the question in the first place).

According to the SRM and the elinux.org/BeagleBoard/ page it's the 2G/2G
part, but apparently

Only a halfway solution, but what of course can be done is adding a
ram disk on usb and use that for swapping.
(unfortunately I am unaware of the existence of such a device, but a
handier person than me will definitely able to make one)
Not sure if it is feasible and performancewise better to connect RAM
in a different way (and e.g. integrate it with an add-on board)
