am335x (watchdog) changes

Hey everyone, a user just posted in the github, about watchdog not working… Looks like it’s never been enabled.. and broken.. so i’ve added another bootarg by default:

omap_wdt.early_enable=1

So going forward, i guess we will have a working watchdog?

Issue: https://github.com/beagleboard/linux/issues/297

Enablement: am335x: enable omap_wdt.early_enable=1 so watchdog is running · beagleboard/image-builder@0550aef · GitHub

The gist, watchdog starts disabled…

static bool early_enable;
module_param(early_enable, bool, 0);
MODULE_PARM_DESC(early_enable,
	"Watchdog is started on module insertion (default=0)");

Best way to start is is with early_enable..

	if (early_enable) {
		omap_wdt_start(&wdev->wdog);
		set_bit(WDOG_HW_RUNNING, &wdev->wdog.status);
	} else {
		omap_wdt_disable(wdev);
	}

Regards,

I though I recalled that the watchdog in the am335x series was an m4 processor on the same chip? So does it also have a watchdog attached to the am335x? Or is this enabling the reset on the am335x, so the m4 can reset the am335x?

So the little m3 just helps for power management stuff.

Ah! Thanks for correcting the m4 to m3! I’ve always noted the firmware installed during boot, but have never looked that closely at it! I’ll have to look at it closer when I get back on my beagles …
