BeagleBoard.org has made an application to be a mentoring organization
for Google Summer of Code 2011. Google will be looking at the
application and ideas page [1] now, so please get your ideas in there
TODAY! Try to make sure that they are clearly beneficial to the
BeagleBoard.org community. Helping to clarify projects on cleaning up
and improving u-boot, Linux and the website are especially welcome.
Avoid projects that are one-off, such as "here's how I built my own
robot, autonomous flying vehicle or car computer". A software library
or improvements to a software library that simplifies the process of
making a robot, autonomous flying vehicle or car computer will be
happily considered!
Break down the idea into some specifics for which we can judge student
success. For example, rather than just "improve OpenCV", add some
subtasks like "modify the soble function to split half the work onto
the DSP". Give a bit of consideration to how the code will be merged
into the mainline project and integrated into distributions.
If you are interested in participating, join the beagleboard-gsoc
Google Group. If you have some mentoring skills you'd like to share,
add your name to ideas page [1] at the bottom in the mentors section,
create yourself a Google account and get on that beagleboard-gsoc
Google Group.
P.S. While I've got your attention, we've also started a podcast
(BeagleCast) at http://beagleboard.blogspot.com.
