We are evaluating the possibility to produce the BB by ourselves but
we did not find any firm able to assembly a PCB with PoP components.
Do you know someone that could support us in such a task (possibly in
Italy, or at least an european firm...).
I know of no one in Europe that has done it. POP is actually easy to do if you can find someone that is just willing to try it. The company that builds Beagle is CircuitCO. www.circuitco.com
As Gerald states 0.4mm and POP isn’t that difficult in case it’s done right. The PCB solder mask is a big part of the secret J
And programming the Pick-n-Place machine to place the memory at a Z-axis other than 0 is another great part J
Flextronics SBS in Skive, Denmark can do 0.4mm with no problem and I bet they are willing to give POP a try as well, although I don’t know for sure. In case interested feel free to contact me and I can try to help you in contact with them…
Ok, thanks.
It would first time with PoP for Flextronics SBS too, actually...
We have already found some italian manufacturer that told us: "We can
try..."
JFTR: We asked Digi Key for 4 more BB after the first one shipped
fast, but they told us they colud not ship them due to "US export
restrictions"...
I saw this issues in a couple of posts here in the past...
I called California, they told me (two days ago) to wait for a form to
be filled with some declarations, but I have not received it yet...
A piece of advice on the assembly. Do not let anyone that has not done POP before learn on a new board. If there are issues in the design, it will be masked over by the “POP Issue”. I would find someone that has done POP build the first protos to make sure there are no issues in the design. Then let the other people learn how to do it using your board.
The secret to POP is a good layout and good soldermask defined pads under the OMAP.

Maybe you can try to ask EBVElekronik if they manufacture their Beagle clone
