I read on the forum that somebody was kind enough to make the BB View 4” screen working again with recent kernels. I happen to have a 7” screen attached to a BBB that is currenlty running Debian 8.7, I believe with a custom kernel. Would it be possible to get that going with debian 13.5 / kernel 6.18 as well? I know much of the docs and the dbto can still be found online. I can help out, but even though I’m a software engineer, II have no idea where to begin to get this working.
Also, as far as I can see, there is no i2c eeprom on the cape. There seem to be some pads where one could be, but the position on the PBC is unpopulated, so I’m not sure if there is anything to be learned from anything but the docs.

build it with am335x-debian-13.5-base-v6.18-armhf-2026-05-19-4gb
console text is there. so it works
can’t speak for touch screen
and the above image will not shut down when issueing “sudo poweroff” from command prompt. but does shutdown when pressing poweroff button on the display.
do I need to set some boot params? I’m not seeing anything.

I also noticed [ 5.718325] pinctrl-single 44e10800.pinmux: error -EINVAL: pin-2 (481d8000.mmc)but when I check the eMMC overlay and the VIEW overlay, ther is no overlap in pins and more importantly, I can boot from the eMMC, so there shouldn’t be any overlap.
This looks like the internal gpio struct format in the overlay isn’t matching what the kernel is expecting.. best to import and re-format the overlay in syntax 6.18.x expects: see Commits · beagleboard/BeagleBoard-DeviceTrees · GitHub
