Beagle Board Angstrom Kernel for DSP Building

I have followed http://ossie.wireless.vt.edu/trac/wiki/BeagleBoard_DSPLink
to get a DSP development environment (outside OE) on my PC. I used
narcissus.angstrom-distribution.org to build my SD card. Do you know
if it is possible to take the kernel from the SD card, without having
to build oe as suggested in the article (following
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom). I have
downloaded the host SDK from narcissus, I'm just not familiar with
which bit is the 'kernel' that DSPLink wants to reference to.
