and what happens when using a 5Volt DC power supply?
Regards,
Hi Robert,
I don't have a 5Volt cable for now. Sorry.

"sudo apt-get update" hits the mmc card pretty hard.. If either your
usb input voltage or your mmc card is weak it will fall over..
Another thing you could test, do you have a wall usb based wall
charger? Or an externally powered usb hub, (assuming you were just
connecting directly to your pc for power)..
Regards,
I suggest that you get one or find a USB supply, maybe from a powered HUB, that can deliver a few more milliamps.
Gerald
Thank you guys.
Just to confirm… A USB cable plugged into the wall with a UK 240v to USB adapter will generally supply as much voltage as a 240v to 5v transformer?
For reference for anyone who found this post searching for prebuilt Ubuntu info: Beagleboard is OMAP3, not OMAP4 so you will need the OMAP3 prebuilt Ubuntu image.

No, it will be current limited, so double check the spec's on your
wall plugin usb charger adapter...
The point is, the original poster's power source looks like it might
be current limited, so the BeagleBone isn't getting enough power..
Most wall/usb (usb phone chargers) can push 5volts/500mA...

Except the original poster is using a BeagleBone, which is neither
omap3 nor omap4, not does Ubuntu/Canonical currently support it at
this time.. Instead he's using a community ubuntu image that supports
all 3 boards (am335x/omap3/omap4) with one image.

Have same problem, and I have tried with an external supply. A 5A one. It does not help.
BeagleBone Black rev A5A, ubuntu 13.
