[beagleboard] debian squeeze keyboard problem

hi
the installation of debian squeeze with dvi (install base system) work
fine until 78% ,i get to "configure console-setup" Continue without
installing a kernel ?
but the keyboard doesn t work any more to choose the answer

Houssem Bahri

Have you tried unplugging and replugging your keyboard in? Is this a
Bx, C2/3 or a C4 beagle? ehci or otg?

I would start the install again, but this time, switch between
"ctrl-alt-f1" and "ctrl-alt-f4" to monitor the install process, if
it's a kernel ehci problem, we should see it crash in "ctrl-alt-f4"
status..

Regards,

hi
c3 , ehci , even when i press the caps lock the led still off

On a C2/3, use the OTG port during install...

You can switch back to using the ehci after the install is complete..

Regards,

hi ,
but i don t have an otg to usb for that , i think the problem isn t
the keyboard ,it s an installation problem,it sticks always during the
installation ,i ve repeated the installation ten times and always it
sticks ,what should i do?

regards
Houssem Bahri

Bahri,

Nope, the installation is perfectly fine... I just completed yet
another this morning for this email...

There is no way i can help you with out ANY useful debugging information...

Since you didn't notice anything obvious wrong under "ctrl-alt-f4"
during the install..

During the "install base" hit "ctrl-alt-f2" hit enter, then type "tail
-f /var/log/syslog > /target/log" then upload the /target/log (it'll
be /log when you mount your sd card) file to an ftp/http server after
the install fails so i can view/debug it...

hi Robert,

when the installation sticks ,the keyboard doesn t work any more so i
can t hit ctrl+alt+f2 ,the installtion sticks every time in a
different step some time in retrieving additional component other
times in install base system ( in apt retrieving also aptitude and
bash , core utils ...) ,until now i ve made the insallation 30 times
or 40 , and it always fails ,i got the same problem when i ve tried
with serial option ,but after about 8 times of fails it works for me.
before that the installation sticked i ve hited ctrl +alt+ f4 and that
interuppt the installtion i get a black scree and a log like the one
of the boot which describe the current step of the installation before
i press that (i hited it when i get choosing languages and i ve get a
something related to that in this log with information a bout wireless
connection)
i didn t really know what this problem is comming from i told you i
can get any log after that it sticked
please could you upload the result of the installation (the root file
system with dvi option) so i can download it or if there is any
solution that i can try it

Well duh.. IF you would have actually read my directions, the whole
point was to start logging (/var/log/syslog) to a safe location before
the keyboard stuck not after... That way you can pull the log file
off the SD card and SEE what actually happened.. but i see you have a
working image now..

During the "install base" (phase) quickly hit "ctrl-alt-f2" hit enter,
then type "tail -f /var/log/syslog > /target/log"... Switch back to
"ctrl-alt-f1" and continue install, after system crash upload the
/target/log (it'll be /log when you mount your sd card) file to an
ftp/http server after the install fails so i can view/debug it...

Yeap, that's pretty much what i expected.. Your C3 has a non 100%
ehci*, it's failing randomly under high load when downloading lots of
packages. Use the OTG port during the Netinstall and switch back to
the ehci after you system is installed..

* there are capacitor mods listed in this forum, but the redesigned
ehci power regulator on the C4 fixes it perfectly..

Exactly... Too much traffic/load on ehci port..

"standard system utilities" to setup and then it sticked , i thought i
would be able to use it but when i boot i give my login and password

You probably mistyped it... By chance do you remember the root
account? Otherwise without either, you aren't going to be able to
recover it very easily.
