[beagleboard] Self-powered USB Ethernet Adapter

Hi,

has anyone managed to use an USB Ethernet adapter without an external
powered hub? (ie., are there such adapters that use less than 100mA
and can be powered from the BB directly)

Michael

Yes.

No. Mine draws about 130mA. I'm powering the beagle through the DC jack, and
it's very stable (Rev C3 board running Ubuntu), apart from hot-plugging.

It's a generic device, made in china, no usb vendor or product id, but it's
driven successfully (and automagically) by the Davicom DM9601 USB Ethernet
driver.

Hi Everyone,

I bought a bunch of self powered USB1.0 and USB2.0 ethernet adapters
that look similar in form to a thumb drive. Both have drivers already
included in the current Beagleboard image (kernel 2.29.26 & later I
think). Both seemed to work perfectly well with anything I tried.

The black USB2.0 version is based on a Davicom chipset (similar to
Cameron's below). How about $15?
The blue USB1.0 version is a MosChip 7830. How about $10?

Since I shipped them from China, I had to buy a bunch of them. I've
still got a half dozen of each - please let me know if anyone wants
them to help me cover my costs. Ship to US would be via USPS priority
envelope ($5.00). Email me at extrabeaglestuff@gmail.com if
interested.

Thanks,
Gordon
