BeagleBone 3.1MP Camera and Beaglebone Black Compatability

Good evening.

I am inquiring as to the compatability of the Beagleboard Black and the 3.1 MP Camera card. When I go to the listing of capes (http://circuitco.com/support/index.php?title=BeagleBone_Capes#BeagleBone_Capes_Compatibility_Matrix), the camera is not listed as being compatible with the Beaglebone Black. Is this a simple problem software issue, or are there fundimental compability problems between the two issues that are unlikely to be easily resolved?

Thanks for any information you can shed.

Walt

PS: The reason for my inquiry is I am getting ready to teach a class with the Bone, and I am going back and forth between the black and regular bone, as one of my labs uses the 3.1 MP camera. I’d like to go with the Black due to cost and other factors, but if this cape isn’t compatible, it’s not so easy to do.)

It shares the eMMC pins i know, so there could be a HW issue at play. I suggest you ask the manufacturer what the issue is.

I’ve managed to get it to work, but now I’m running into a problem with the device driver. When I try to capture an image with openCV, I receive the following error: VIDIOC_REQBUFS: Cannot allocate memory.

Is there somethign in the uenv.txt that needs to be set for the camera to function properly with openCV? I can make it work fine with Cheese and mplayer.

Hi Walter, could you share how you got the camera cape working? I’ve disabled EMMC and HDMIN in my uenv.txt file but the camera still doesn’t show up in /dev/ .

I’ve got the 3.1MP cape from radiumboards and its the only cape on my BBB.

Mine worked fine with the base image from Angstrom if I booted off of an SD card. However, a big however, I was using the Beagleboard Toys cape (http://beagleboardtoys.info/index.php?title=BeagleBone_3.1MP_Camera) not the radiumboards cape. I suspect there may be a driver problem relative to the radium boards version.
