I am a grad student at Carnegie Mellon University and would like to work with Beagleboard.org for GSoC 2017. I went through the Ideas list and found few projects interesting. I talked to few members of the community regarding few of the projects I thought I could contribute to and I would like to know more about this project as well: BeagleBone-based Serial Terminal Server [http://elinux.org/BeagleBoard/GSoC/Ideas#BeagleBone-based_Serial_Terminal_Server].
I have some experience with configuring UART [and I2C and building kernel modules] for a bare metal Raspberry Pi using C by setting the right memory locations and register values.
