Brand new beaglebone freezing

Hi,

I purchased several beaglebones black wireless and powered them with a 5V, 2A power supply to the microUSB header. However, this problem still exists with 5V barrel power. The BBB will start, Wi-Fi and bluetooth comes on, then after several minutes, the board will freeze to an unusable state (no response until reboot). This is happening on multiple BBB.

Is it possible this is a firmware or software issue? Can I update the image and hope that it will solve the problem?

Hi Robert,

I am obtaining the images from BeagleBoard.org - latest-images

When I download the image for " [AM3358 Debian 10.3 2020-04-06 4GB SD IoT]" and wrote it into an SD card using Balenaetcher, the beaglebone does not respond to the package. There is no LED running back and forth shown when flashing.

Thus, I used " [AM3358 Debian 10.3 2020-04-06 4GB eMMC IoT Flasher]", which was posted above.

I can’t upgrade the BBB using terminal since it freezes before I can do anything.

@Martin13 no idea… looks like a bug in the wl18xx driver with 4.19.94-ti-r42, which was released on (Commits on Mar 31, 2020)…

The v4.19-ti branch is now at: 4.19.94-ti-r72 (Commits on Mar 8, 2022)

Feel free to test the “iot snapshot” from: Debian 10.x (Buster) - Monthly Snapshots to see if that bug has been fixed as that ships with 4.19.94-ti-r72 …

There is also a really small chance u-boot is really old… Do you have the usb ftdi adapter to be plugged into J1 so we can see a full bootup?

Using the debugger cable, this is the output from a Beaglebone wireless board while booting from a SD card with the latest image bone-debian-10.12-iot-armhf-2022-04-01-4gb.img

The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth led lights were on. The four heartbeat leds blinked until they froze to an off, on, off, off pattern.
