Breakout Board for Beagle Board X15

I thought I would post this to the BB x15 group in case some else would find this board helpful. I created this board in EagleCAD 7. It breaks out most of the PINs of the 4 expansion connectors of the BBx15. Hopefully the schematic is documented enough that you can solder up the board yourself. If you want to use the board to just break out the expansion connectors you do not need to solder any of the chips except for the 7 SN74CBTD16211DL chips that are level converters that would allow 5V signals.

Wow Dan!

This is perfect. I was looking for something like this.

Did you create the Hirose header footprints yourself? They are very nice.

Calvin

Yes. Glad you can use the board. I have attached the EagleCAD library for the Hirose connector that I made. This library has two other parts for a different board I was working on at the time, so ignore those.

Heads up for anyone using the expansion connectors on the BB X15. I spent much of yesterday debugging this issue. The BB X15 ships with a small piece of tape on each of the underneath expansion headers. I didn’t realize this and connected the new BB X15 to my expansion board and the piece of tape got shoved inside the connector. Because of this some of my pins where not connected to the expansion board because they were blocked by the tape.
So when unpacking a new BB X15 make sure the remove those small pieces of tape from the connectors if you plan to use them. I bet the tape is left on the connectors because many people do not use the expansion and debris could get in the connectors.

Dan,

I know this is 7 months old at this point, but would you happen to have the BOM for this board? Eagle’s exported parts list contains insufficient information to find everything (namely the pin headers). This looks like a sweet board, and I am hoping to get some fabbed soon, thank you for posting it!

I use all the same two row pin headers. I purchase 2 by 36 pin row headers and simply cut them to the size I need. Are there certain SV connector numbers that you are having trouble finding? Or are you talking about the connectors that connect to the BBX15 four connectors? Their part number is in the BBX15 users guide but I could find you the DigiKey part number for those if you wish.
Dan

Dan,
That actually covers everything. This is my first board to get fabbed and assembled, and I didn’t know that the pin headers could be cut (and was looking for each size separately). I found the part numbers for the Hirose mating connector already, but thank you. Many thanks for such a quick reply, and for making this board.
