I was wanting to use the CD40109B for logic level translation and was trying to get some feedback on this specific chip.
Has anyone used this chip for translating logic and/or using it to handle the Pocket Beagle 2 for unidirectional serial communication? Also, if you have used it and other types of chips for translation, what would you recommend for bidirectional translation?
There are many chips to choose. I am sort of getting some background on what would work best with serial/GPIO communication and motors (DC and/or Stepper).
As you can see from the datasheet, the CD40109B is a part from a pre-3.3V era,
and I suspect that’s why it hasn’t been characterized for lower-than 5V operation.
While I won’t go as far as to say it can’t be done ever, I’d be very careful
around any 3.3V devices. Thorough investigation would be prudent.
As for the TXB / TXS lines, make sure you get the right one for your application.
In general, I’m not crazy in love with those auto-bidi style devices,
but as always, your application will be the determinator.
Thank you both for the heads up on this “outcome.”
I have taken prior consideration and @lranders , I was surprised by what you typed. I really thought the CD40109B handled 3.3v CMOS operation bi and unidirectional. I will research the datasheet again. Thank you.
And to @amf99 , thank you. I will go off and look for a replacement to the current purchased components. I will look at the TXS0108E and TXS0102D for translating. Hopefully, they have the PDIP package available.
In any light, we can call this cased closed. Thank you.
@amf99 , my soldering skills are still weak now. SMT and SMD is over my payscale still. I have watched endless videos on it. Watched the high technology placement of solder one pin and then mask the rest with paste to finally heat it all.
