Clarification needed regarding the "Linux kernel support for embedded devices and interfaces" project

Hello all,
There is a project in the list about improving the linux kernel support for embedded devices and interfaces. From the description and after talking with mentors on the IRC, I understood that the project is about taking some good add-ons in the beaglebone linux tree and adding them to the mainline linux kernel tree to improve support for other arm-linux platform.
Can the mentors related to this project idea verify my conclusion and also if possible describe a bit more on what front they want this project to work, such as, improving the generic communication drivers or improving device specific driver supports etc.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Manmohan
