(Clone) [Insteon Hub Pro] Latest usable software for Hub Pro BBB?

I am trying to get my Insteon Hub Pro working with Homebridge. Debian 7.5 on a microSD card boots fine. However, it’s so outdated that I can’t even run apt-get update, let alone install Homebridge. But I can’t seem to find a later image that actually runs. I hold down S2, the light comes on, but instead of transitioning to heartbeat, it just goes out.

I’d prefer a 2GB image so that I can flash the eMMC, but if not, I can live with running it off the SD indefinitely.

Or am I doing something wrong?

Help please? Thanks!

I dont know anything about the Hub Pro, but BBB software images can be found here: https://rcn-ee.com/rootfs/

Any of the armhf minimal images should work with the 2G emmc, the others would run from an SD card.

What images have you tried?

Thought this looked familiar…

Not our board…

Regards,

Should I use the am57xx or the am335x? Just 335x, right?

Which images should I try at Index of /rootfs? The only armhf minimal images I see are Debian 12, which doesn’t seem to work.

That image should work with the beaglebone black (tho’ I havnt tried it). It uses an am335 processor.

Yes, but the point here is that I haven’t found an image newer than Debian 7.5 that works. am335x-debian-12.11-minimal-v6.1-armhf-2025-08-13-2gb.img.xz,
am335x-debian-12.11-minimal-v5.10-armhf-2025-08-13-2gb.img.xz
, and
am335x-debian-12.11-minimal-armhf-2025-07-02-2gb.img.xz
all have the same result: The light comes on, and then goes off. It never goes into heartbeat.

It appears that the modified clone board that you have is just not compatible with later software.

I still say, solder a header on j1 so you can see what u-boot is doing.

You’ve been only debugging by LEDs for years, without knowing what u-boot is complaining about..

Regards,

Perhaps, but how much later? Are my only options Debian 7 and Debian 12? I don’t know that I can’t install an earlier version and upgrade.

Everyone is just guessing at this point and does NOT have this specific hardware. You have the hardware, solder a header to j1 and show us what it does on boot-up.

Regards,

How do you know? Do you have some data on this? I’ve been able to run Debian 10 on it with a 4GB image.

Or is it that there simply don’t exist 2GB images except Debian 7 and 12?

Well, that requires that I learn to solder, buy a header, and risk my hardware to do the work. Isn’t it easier just to figure out which is the latest Debian that will run, and then upgrade it?

June 2022 (the last time i asked you)… to today… August 2025…

Plenty of time.

Solder 3 wires, go to a university or a hack-athon, would take you 5/10 minutes.

After that u-boot will show you exactly what it’s trying to do and we will have an answer for you..

Otherwise, it’s NOT our board, it was designed by Insteon..

I understand, but wouldn’t it be simpler to just find out which software it will load, and upgrade from there?

Or are there no other 2GB images other than Debian 7.5 and 12?

I agree! It’s so much simpler to see what software will load when you have a UART debug connection over J1!

Regards,

That’s simpler than soldering something? Seems circular.

Are there no other images to try?

This is going no-where… Your device is a NOT a Beagle Product.

Good Luck!

Regards,

Oh look, there are indeed 2gb images between Debian 7.5 and 12. Index of /rootfs/bb.org/testing/2023-04-06/bullseye-minimal-armhf

Why could no one just tell me this?

Why are these not easier to find?

Edit: Sadly, there seem to be no Buster minimal images.

there is a console 1G, will that work?

I did:
