Confirmation before investing in LCD monitor.

Hello folks...I plan on getting myself an AOC F19 LCD monitor. I just
wish to know if the board is gonna work fine with it before I invest
my few months' pocket money on it ;). It has max resolution of
1366X768 @ 60 Hz & has a DVI-HDCP port. I know 1366X768 isn't
supported well, but I want to know if the quality is gonna be okay ? I
mean I hope I won't get fuzzy/bad display etc. Here is the product
link...http://us.aoc.com/lcd_monitors/f19

Thanks.

The thing about LCDs is they have fixed pixel sites built into the
glass
screen. So, they really don't work well at anything but their exact
native resolution. If that AOC monitor has 1366x768 pixels on the
screen,
then feeding it any other resolution will be fuzzy. It likely will
have
vertical bands that are not as clear as other places on the screen.
Modern monitors use all sorts of digital tricks to try to mask the
pixel mismatch, and they do amazingly well at it, but you will not get
the "crystal clear" picture the monitor is capable of except when your
video output matches the screen's resolution.

You may be able to fix this with custom mode lines in the X config
file (assuming you are running Linux on the Beagle).

Hello Jon, thanks for the information. Yes, I am running linux
(Angstrom) on the board. The reason for my apprehensions is that there
are a few other posts on the list (regarding the 1366X768 resolution
and other unsupported resolutions as well) who have reported that
changing modes via DSS2 and/or the X config file does not have any
effect.
However, 1366X768 is the "maximum" resolution (also stated as the
"optimum" resolution) for the screen...so a bit of downsizing must be
supported, shouldn't it ? I should also mention that I can do away
with the picture not being "crystal clear" as long as it is clear
enough & the quality is about satisfactory...and doesn't make me feel
too guilty about investing in the product  What do you suggest
now ?

Thanks.

If you have an LCD monitor now, I suggest you change the video mode to
a lower resolution and see what it does to your desktop screen. I
don't
think it will be good enough, but the newer monitors have controllers
that calculate and interpolate the best split for pixels sent from the
computer that straddle the native screen pixels, and they do
surprisingly
well. But, I can't say for that specific monitor. Maybe somebody has
one
and can try it at, say, 1024x768.

Jon

Thanks again, Jon. No I don't own a LCD monitor presently. However,
the product is quite popular, hence it shouldn't be much of a problem
to diagnose whether the resolution works or not. Thanks for addressing
my apprehensions.
