I have a frequent problem on both of the 2 BBB which I have set up with ssh connection.
This time, it is using ssh through the usb connection
everything was fine for at least two days in a row, and I logout :
root@beaglebone:/home# exit
logout
Connection to 192.168.7.2 closed.
But then, it was impossible to reconnect, although this was done just a few seconds later
ecrins:~ jxl$ slogin root@192.168.7.2
ssh: connect to host 192.168.7.2 port 22: Connection refused
And the ping is OK

I have the same problem with my remote BBB which is now unreachable until
I make a hard reboot.

Can you replicate this issue with the GateOne SSH link ?
It may be worthwhile to check the sshd logs and/or historical logs via the journalctl util.
May want to set the proper system time first and then note the time of failure and check that section of the logs.

I believe this is what you mean :
I do not use GateOne SSH but the terminal from my mac which I prefer from a web application.
At the same time I realize that I should set up the clock !

It looks like your issue is this:

Others have had similar issues, caused by this this file being of zero length. My replacement BBB came this way. The fix is simple, if you have a serial cable, you can login through uboot and just delete that file and then restart. If you don’t have a serial cable, then you’ll likely have to reflash your board with the latest image.
What’s interesting is that it was working and then stopped. Did you run any software updates?

It occurs to me only after posting that, that you likely have a serial cable since you obviously got the log. Clearly I need to be getting more sleep, lol.
