Contributing to BeagleBone community as a Student to GSoC 2014

Hi

I’m Steve doing my 1st year in Electronic Engineering in Peru. I would like to contribute to BeagleBoard through a project in GSoC 2014. This year the BB community seems to have peaked my interest and would like to contribute some one of your Projects because I love Hardware/Software/Robotic systems. Past year I participated in GSoC 2013 to OSgeo Comunity. It was an amazing experience and people that I met.

Would one of the team members be interested to be my mentor?. I will thank some one could guide me. Now I am thinking about contribute to your amazing ideas that I saw in your wiki.

I have some experience:

  • The past year I participated in GSoC 2013 for OSgeo Comunity[1]
  • I got my first major in Computer Science in San Pablo University (Peru)
  • I participated in LARS 2013 competition and (Robot Soccer on November 2013) and Conference. We used Arduino for our robots, Reforceiment learning for strategy and OpenCv for Visual recognition.[2]
  • I have been envolved with robotics and embedded systems like Arduino, Beagle Board, Raspberry Pi, since three years at medium level (ArduiPilot was my last board)
  • I have had my experience of programming with different platforms and languages like as C/ C++, Python, Java, C#, Android
  • I have a strong background in Linux/Debian
  • I have used diferent kind of SDK and tools such as : Eclipse, Visual Studio, CodeBlocks, Mono.
  • Libraries and API: OpenGL(intermediate) OpenCV (intermediate)
  • As well as free software, which is an area, where I had been involved with a community of users from my city(during 2007 at www.aqpglug.org.pe).
  • Otherwise I have also helped in Debian Project into Spanish language during 2006, 2007, 2008.
  • Another important part of my experience was at my university where I introduced others students to operate Linux system, in 2007-2008.
  • Operating Systems : Debian, Ubuntu, Windows.
  • Data Bases: Postgres, Mysql, SQLServer and SQLite.

I am interested and want to work in one of your ideas :

  • BeaglePilot
  • Android-based remote display
  • Any related to Libraris for Arduino-compatible or
  • Others

those projects are interested by me because I will enjoy it and I always wanted to make this kind of issues.

Any help appreciated

Best regards

I suggest you join the #beagle and #beagle-gsoc IRC channels to try to meet
some potential mentors to chat about your thoughts on executing these
projects. Please read over the ideas and send questions that will move the
dialog forward.
