Current Rating For DC Power Supply

I have a 5 volt, 2.5 Amp power supply that I would like to use for my Beagleboard. Is is safe to feed the board that much current (2.5A)?

Thanks

I guess that ratings mean that the adapter can supply upto 2.5 amps when needed by the load (the board). I will not feed the board with 2.5A by force. So, it should be safe to use the adapter.
I request the more experienced to comment in case I am wrong.

Some cheap adapters have a strong curve. At 0.1A, they may provide
6.5V, and at 2A, 5V. Just check with a voltmeter and no load first.

This is more than enough current but as already suggested, make sure that it does indeed deliver the 5V as required and not more than 5.2V
