EMMC not found: Beagle Bone Black Flasher fails

Hi everyone,

I try to set-up a BBB with the image from here:
https://rcn-ee.net/rootfs/release/2023-12-11/bookworm-iot-armhf/am57xx-eMMC-flasher-debian-12.4-iot-armhf-2023-12-11-4gb.img.xz

After flashing the image to an SD card using balena etcher, I inserted the card into the BBB and got the following result:

Do I understand correctly, that the BBB booted from SD but did not recognize the EMMC storage?
As far as I can see, the bootloader looked for three files, one for the eMMC storage in the wrong place:

2. Will this solve the actual problem:

Your issue, uboot on the eMMC is to old. (Which is one reason you are flashing it)

On normal startup, the boot rom is reading the eMMC for uboot, load uboot , then uboot will scan the microSD first and load Linux.

Too force the boot rom to load uboot from the microSD you must push and hold usr button, before and during initial power on.

So I tried to boot by pressing " SPACE to abort autoboot in 0 seconds ". Admitting that I have no experience in that, I wonder why uboot from the SD card is running and “mmc list” gives two results (so far so good) but only “mmc dev 1” results in

mmc1(part 0) is current device

Unfortunately, “mmc dev 0” does not result in anything. Consequently, also “part list” or “ls” does not work on mmc device 0.
Therefore, I did not go on to try to boot with mmc device 0.

You microSD’s u-boot looks fine, but just to verify, on your microSD you are using 4.4.155-ti-r155 correct?

3.8.x ↔ 4.4.x era was nasty for “root=/dev/mmcblkXpY” as it was literally a race conditioning who got “1p1” vs “0p1” this was fixed later on mainline way after this era.

So, is using 4.4.x a requirement of your design? If so, to do 4.4.x and swapping between microSD, and eMMC you will need to use UUID…

And this is exactly what I want to change.

Ideally, the behavior will be like this:

a) SD card inserted and button pressed → boot from SD (uboot and linux) and flashing the SD card contents to the eMMC.
b) SD card inserted but button not pressed → boot from eMMC
c) no SD card, button not pressed → boot from eMMC

scenario a) is what I am currently trying, but uboot on the SD card seems to prefer the linux on the eMMC instead of the linux on the SD card.

for me looks like the problem is not that eMMC is preferred but maybe that the partition on the SD card is not recognized correctly.

I thought that the image on the SD card is supposed to boot itself and flash itself onto the eMMC. How can I reach this?

Well, I had no sucess trying this way.
My solution was a little detour:

I booted from an SD card with an old image (kernel v4), plugged in my USB storage with the current image file (not the flasher one) and dumped this to the eMMC storage using a command similar to this:
