Ethernet port not responding

I’ve been all over searching for this issue, and while I’ve found a few posts that seem to have the same issue around the tubes, I haven’t found a solution.

I’m a Windows guy by day, so take that for what it’s worth  Here’s the situation:

New-ish BBB. I’ve had it for a while, but only just recently started using it. It’s a Rev C, running Debian. uname -a shows 3.88.13-bone50. After I got the image placed on MMC, I enabled eth0, which was commented out by default. I briefly got it to grab an IP address via DHCP, but within a reboot or two I couldn’t get an IP address anymore. I tried a static IP, but couldn’t access any resources on my network. I even re-flashed the MMC.

dmesg shows many occurrences of:

net eth0: initializing cpsw version 1.12 (0)
net eth0: phy found : id is : 0x7c0f1
libphy: PHY 4a101000.mdio:01 not found
net eth0: phy 4a101000.mdio:01 not found on slave 1
IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready

Additionally, I see this on boot up:

While the cable is plugged in, both the amber and green lights are on solid. They come on solid as soon as power is applied, and they turn off briefly during the boot process, probably for less than a second (and I’m pretty sure it corresponds to the attached screen shot).

So I guess I’m at a loss right now. I suppose it could be bad hardware, but I’m not ready to call it this early. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks,
Gabe

A few kernel fixes for the phy are not in the may 2014 release, flash via:

":01" is the second eth port.. Which is not connected on the bbb.
