Flashing eMMc

I need some help understanding what should happen while flashing the eMMC on a BeagleBone Black.

I am having trouble flashing the eMMC or i have bricked the board.I followed the procedures for flashing the eMMc (using the correct eMMC image, external 5vdc power, no USB devices attached, tried many times and can hear the S2 button click)

What screen output should you see (via HDMI) while the image is being flashed?
At present i am seeing the login screen and the LEDs are flashing (or should I disconnect the HDMI and just watch the LEDs)

The other piece of info that may be relevant is that it won’t boot (no LED lights) without the sdcard inserted. It will boot off the sdcard, and if i mount the onboard memory the data superficially appears intact with the MILO and uenv.txt files.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You cannot brick the board. You will see a login screen during flashing. The LEDS should be flashing. No need to disconnect the HDMI.

If it won’t boot without the SD card in, that means the eMMC has not been flashed correctly.

Follow the instructions here, all of them, and it should work fine. It takes 45 minutes t flash the eMMC.

I am having exactly this same issue. My BBB will not boot without the SD
card with latest Angstrom image inserted. I have followed the steps
exactly to reflash the eMMC several times, which appears to complete
successfully (all LEDS on solid after ~40-45 min). Only when I attempt to
boot to the eMMC (removed the sdcard) nothing happens, no LEDs flash. I
have tried booting with USB and with 5v 2A wall wart and see same results.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Steve

Anything plugged into the expansion headers?
