Hi:
This is my first GSoC thing, but the way I understand that it works is
like this:1) you don't pick a mentor, you pick an "org" and then pick a project (and
one or more mentors are assigned if your proposal is selected).
Well, that's mostly true, but we ask students to engage with with mentors
to "bond" ahead of final proposal submission. So, submissions are to the
"org", but without a relationship with a mentor you are unlikely to be
selected.
2) GSoC communication is normally via the mailing list and IRC, along with
the Google Melange web site.
Yes! Contact should be *directed* toward individual mentors to build
relationships, but should be conducted *via* the public avenues. In this
spirit, I hope that you aren't overly upset I've copied the public list as
these are essentially FAQs.
Pings are welcome, but please keep the list in copy to help minimize the
impact on any individual mentor as most questions are fairly generic and we
can all benefit from the answers.
Thanks!!
