How to boot XBMC

Hi friends,

I've downloaded the Narcissus Angstrom Distribution with all packages
I need, but it doesn't boot on the Beagleboard xM.
Maybe the problem is in the boot partition, but I'm not sure where.

Which of them I should copy to the boot partition:

Am not sure about the verions about MLO,uboot And uImage,But you can give a blind try with both.Pls take care that you have copied the files into the boot partition (FAT32) in the certain order like
1.MLO
2.u-boot.bin
3.uImage

Pls take care that you have copied the files into the boot partition (FAT32) in the certain order like
1.MLO
2.u-boot.bin
3.uImage

You dont need a specific order of file copy

It would be good if that “myth” is really dropped once and for all (you don’t even need uImage name to be uImage)

Lioric

That sounds interesting, is that in a wiki somewhere? Could you post some more myths?

That sounds interesting, is that in a wiki somewhere?

for the MLO and u-boot myths see:

Could you post some more myths?

I have a 1.5 secs booting -xM (from cold start to user interface), you can be sure that I have seen tons of myths during this months while working on my hobby project

Lioric

Thank you guys for help, but it doesn't work.
It displayed only in the left corner the Beagleboard logo and that's
it.
The log at HyperTerminal is the same as before.

What does that mean:

1.*** Warning - readenv() failed, using default environment
2.** Unable to read "uEnv.txt" from mmc 0:1 **
3.gtk-update-icon-cache: Failed to open file /usr/share/icons/
gnome/.icon-theme.cache : File exists

And maybe it's something with the screen resolution?
Do you know more about it?

Greetings,

Toni

I don’t think that has anything to do with it. I tried it last night and was able to get a command prompt, but it would not load the program. It said it couldn’t load a display. Mabe look at xmbc site? I will try more later

Here’s some info here… I will have another go at it later this evening.

http://elinux.org/BeagleBoard/GSoC/2010_Projects/XBMC#Documentation

I get these same messages also

1.*** Warning - readenv() failed, using default environment

I think that means it cannot read from the onboard nand. XM doesn’t have any. You are using XM?

2.** Unable to read “uEnv.txt” from mmc 0:1 **

I believe this is the new replacement for boot.scr, if you don’t have it, it will just continue booting

3.gtk-update-icon-cache: Failed to open file /usr/share/icons/
I didn’t look to see if I had this or not but I did get the error too.

So maybe something is wrong in my image build?
Because I don't know what to do now...
