initramfs-bbb-console

Hi,

I used am335x-debian-11.7-iot-armhf-2023-09-02-4gb.img.xz image flashed sdcards and the booted with on console but stuck at (initramfs) prompt, I feel it is not switching to rootfs and at end init script is not getting triggered.

P.S. Sorry, I just understood the dilemma. It boots but not from mini-USB to USB 2.0 for networking. Got it. I do not want you to remove your entire system by accident. Can you flash something else to the board in kernel 5.10.x? If not, and if you want to keep your data, time to read and find examples for testing.

I have had this exact, same issue where I could not boot into a board because of buildroot builds, i.e. either my u-boot was outdated and/or the kernel was mismatched with the u-boot build.

No, I am not using any buildroot setup , instead I just downloaded the xz image from Latest Software Images - BeagleBoard , flashed into sdcard, setup the minicom at my ubuntu laptop, connected the console cable and started…but its stuck at initramfs prompt…then robert told, its taking from emmc , please erase it…then it will start normally…but here…my problem is how to erase as my booting is completed…?

earlier it didnt given that much issues…but now …i dont know why so much issues i m facing…

seems image is not appropriately selected…but again which exact image should be used…none specifically told…i m trying from my own…if u know some proven image…kindly let me know and if somewhere my steps are wrong…kindly correct the steps too…

all fight till yet is to get a test bed//from where i can try my other skill-up…

On the BBB, there is a S2 Button/Boot Button. Same button.

That button while held when applying power will boot to the micro SD Card.

P.S. 4.14.x is older…yes. EOL probably. I can check debian archives but I am almost 100% sure that 4.14.x is EOL forever. Outside of humor here, say you did something like update/upgrade, that may have changed some elementary processes and programs which I think beagleboard.org use to make sure their images are in the communities best interest. Outside of that guess, use the button that is alone, S2/Boot button. One in the same.

So, there is a Power button and a Reset button that are both near each other. Neither of those buttons will need to be in play here. Use the S2 button. On the silkscreen, it is labeled S2.

So, again…

  1. Hold the S2 button while applying power via the mini-USB to USB 2.0 cable and do not let go until you see two LEDs light up.
  2. You should boot into the micro SD Card now.

Are you trying to save data on the eMMC or the micro SD Card?

I am not able to see the contents at development laptop also.

Better if u can suggest workable from Latest Software Images - BeagleBoard and flashing process, i m using dd as balena is giving issue too…

so can you stop at u-boot. i believe that you can delete emmc from u-boot.
don’t recall off hand what the commands are. but i’m sure a google will get you that info.
