Good morning all:
Has anybody installed ndiswrapper to the Beagleboard rev. C5?
I am trying to setup a Belkin F7D1101 v1 USB WiFi adapter and it seems that using ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers is the easiest way.
Any other way would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Jsac

I don't see how this will work on the BeagleBoard. The ndiswrapper is just
a tool to let Windows drivers run inside Linux. As such, it will expect to
execute x86 instructions. I don't know of any work hooking such an emulator
up to ndiswrapper.
Any other way would also be appreciated.
Get a friendlier WiFi dongle - there are a bunch of them that don't
have to jump through these Windows hoops.

and you have windows drivers for ARM?
Hello Gary:
I have seen a number of comments in the web suggesting that getting WiFi to
work with the BB is next to impossible. I am speaking of the Angstrom
distro, of course.
Do you have a P/N for a friendlier WiFi adapter?
One web site mentions the Belkin G P/N F5D7050; have you tried this adapter?
Thanks,
Hello Vladimir:
From the answers I get, it seems that the ndiswrapper way will not work with
the BB.
Has anyone gotten a WiFi USB dongle to work with the Angstrom distro "out of
the box"?
Thanks,
Jsac
Yes, I plug in the dongle (usb or expansion port) and boot the beagle. Then I click on the icon in the topright in the GUI and select the network I want to join. If that is "next to impossible" the comments on the internet are right.

This is what I use - out of the box, no firmware, etc - just works.
usb 2-1.2.4: new high speed USB device using ehci-omap and address 6
usb 2-1.2.4: New USB device found, idVendor=0846, idProduct=4260
usb 2-1.2.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 2-1.2.4: Product: NETGEAR WG111v3
usb 2-1.2.4: Manufacturer: Manufacturer_NETGEAR
usb 2-1.2.4: SerialNumber: E091F52435AD

I've not had any luck with Belkin on Linux over the years. This might no longer
be the case, but I'll stick with what I know works.
You're assuming that he has hardware with working drivers which he does
not, hence the whole thread.
Actually finding a device that has drivers *is* a challenge - I have a
half-dozen dongles here only 2 of which I could ever get to work with
Linux (desktop, BeagleBoard, ... you name it)
I'm not assuming that, the thread has statements similar to "I have a Belkin F7D1101 v1 USB WiFi adapter and I want it to work, but haven't tried it" and "google suggests it is hard". So AFAICS Jose hasn't actually tried to use it. The RTL8188SU chipset has been supported in Linus' tree since 2.6.37.
So unless someone posts some logs showing actual errors/missing USB IDs I'll be holding to my earlier statements that it will just work.
Actually, I have tried using the Belkin F7D1101 v1. The BB recognizes that
is plugged into the USB 2.0 hub, but nothing more. Issuing lsusb shows that
it is there, but there is no wlan0. Issuing iwconfig produces no response.
I am thinking about getting the Belkin F5D7050. This device is mentioned in
the BeagleBoardShoppingList as a recommended device for the BB.

Gary / Koen:
I realize the original question about using ndiswrapper with the BB is
nonsense; I apologize for the momentary lapse of imagination.
I have connected a Trendnet TU2-ET100, booted the BB and eth0 appeared right
away. Issuing ifdown eth0 followed by ifup eth0 put me right into my local
network and the Internet.
However, connecting a NETGEAR WG111 v3 as indicated by Gary, while producing
a wlan0, still does not connect to the local wireless router, a Linksys
E1000.
Koen mentioned the "icon in the top right in the gui", but I have no icon on
the top right of my gui. In fact the menu in the top panel only has
APPLICATIONS PLACES and SYSTEM, and none of the applications under the
submenu SYSTEM=>ADMINISTRATION seem to work, they return a windows which
says "The configuration could not be loaded"
Are we talking about two different distributions here? My BB is a version C5
running Angstrom 2010.7 test.
Thanks,
José
