The usb host on my beaglebone black industrial rev B6 is hooked up to external board with a USB 2.0 Hub and 10/100 Ethernet Controller (LAN9154) and USB WiFi Module (WG209). Both of these are powered externally from a 24V line stepped down to 3.3V. The same 24V line is stepped down to 5V to run the beaglebone. When that 24V line is removed, a single cell Li-ion battery is used to safely shutdown the beaglebone if on battery power for more than 10 seconds. The problem is, as soon as I remove the 24V power source, the wifi driver throws an error: ‘mt7601u 1-1.5:1.0: Vendor request req:07 off:a804 failed:-110’ which halts the shutdown for 7 and a half minutes. Here is the output of my program as soon as I remove the 24 V line.

Through my research I’ve found that the Beaglebone can’t use its USB host port on battery power since there is no 5V supply. I was wondering if this just shuts down the 5V supply or the D+ and D- lines (which operate at a lower voltage) as well? My USB hub/ethernet controller does not use the 5V line, just the data lines and ground. Also, when I reconnect the 24V line before the 10 second timer on battery, the board remains on but the same ‘mt7601u 1-1.5:1.0: Vendor request req:07 off:101c failed:-110’ consistently shows up and my wireless adapter is unusable until I reboot, which still takes 7 and a half minutes. Even when I keep the USB hub/ethernet controller and wifi module powered, the beaglebone still can’t communicate with them on battery (which makes me believe the D+ and D- lines are not active on battery power). Any thoughts?
