I am new to the beagle board. I installed ubuntu, but wanted to use a
bigger SD afterwards. But after installation of ubuntu, I couldn't
boot from SD anymore. I connected the rs232 and issued a "nand erase
clean". After that, there is no response from the board anymore - not
a single character is being output to the uart, even if I push the
user button during reset.
I have the C4 beagle board.
Any ideas?
You just wiped out the program stored in NAND. To boot from the SD card you must hold the user button down during boot up. This forces a boot from the SD card. Otherwise it will boot from NAND.

Yes, I know. But even I put all the files on SD, formatting done, MLO
first, u-boot.bin next and so on. Pressing the user button and then
holding it and connecting power. No single character comes out of the
UART.
Make sure that you format the card correctly and that the first file copied over to the SD card is the MLO file.

PMU_STAT is turned on by the SW. It means there is no SW running other than the boot ROM codeā¦

Thanks Gerald. I am new to this board and there is so much information
I have to gather. Thanks for your help.
You bet. Take a look and the System Manual to get a feel for the design and how it works. I think that will help you out.
