No USB connections after adding/removing root password

I made the silly mistake of adding a root password then messed about with gdm.conf as shown here. Nothing worked so I put gdm.conf back to original and delete the root password.

I can ssh and vnc into the BBB through the ethernet port address but for some reason I can’t through the USB address. The mass storage device shows up on my PC but not even start.htm can connect to the BBB through USB.

It’s probably something very simple but I just can’t figure out what it is.

P.S. I didn’t mess with the PC’s BBB drivers in any way.

Ok ignore this. After losing most of my hair I remembered the absolute first step in troubleshooting anything to do with windows. Reboot the PC. I finally did and everything magically works again.
