I am attaching a portable USB HDD to the OTG port on the Beagleboard
XM but it is completely ignored. Do I need to change a link to make it
operate as a 'host' port? Will it supply enough current to operate the
drive? The reason for using the OTG port is so that the HDD can be
inside the case with no trailing lead outside the case.
The OTG port NOT supply enough current to power an HDD. It only supplies 100mA. You must have an external supply for the HDD.

You do if you do not have the correct cable that has it already grounded.
