The-xM has the HUB built in and it does not require the flat cable or the null modem cables.
Gerald
I think you (we) will also probably require a few microSD cards,
rather than simply SD as with the original/classic* BB.
* Replace with retro-branding term of your choice!
Likewise goes for the Ethernet J
Søren
It will come with a 4GB microSD card, but I would think have several around would be a good idea.

Thanks for the quick replies. Here's what I'm planning to order for
XM:
1. USB-Std-A Male to 5.5x2.1mm Barrel Connector
2. Acrylic Case for Beagle Board RevC (Will this case fit the XM?)
3. Monitor Cable (HDMI-A-male to DVI-D male)
4. USB Std-A-Female to Mini-A-Male Adapter
I don't need the serial port or the DB9 connector and I already have a
USB hub & several MicroSD cards lying around.
Please let me know if I'm missing something...

I suspect the xM won't fit since it's slightly larger and the connecters are in different places. Having said that, Bill from specialcomp has been pretty quick to adapt new boards in the past, so shoot him a mail.

Koen
The USB to barrell connector will not be enough power to run the -xM. With the addtion of the HUB, you will need to use two USB ports, especailly if you plan to use the USB ports for anything other than keyboard and mouse.
Gerald
Oh, and yes, the Rev C case will NOT fit the -xM board. It is larger and the conenctors are different. Don’t waste your money.

You probably want to just buy the 5V power adapter instead.

It won't.

Yeah, you'll still want that. OR, an HDMI cable for use with an HDTV.
> 4. USB Std-A-Female to Mini-A-Male Adapter
Do you really need that? I doubt you do given that you'll have 4 host
ports without using the OTG port as a host.

You certainly don't need the DB9 adapter, but remember that the xM is
straight-through, not in a null-modem/cross-over configuration.
Gerald did this to make it so you can connect USB-to-serial adapters
directly to the board.

null modem cables.
I has a RS-232 port, but you will need a null modem cable, no?
Gerald
Cheers,

I have emailed specialcomp (Bill?) to ask them when they'll have the
Acrylic case for XM ready. Will update this thread when and if I hear
back.
It may be worthwhile if we create a separate wiki page for XM
ShoppingList or atleast a section on the existing page for XM....

No null modem cable is needed. It is designed to allow you to plug a USB to serial cable direct into the board.

Bill from Specialcomp got back to me saying he has some cases that he
made based on a mechanical XM sample. He would make them available for
sale on a XM specific order page (https://specialcomp.com/beagleboard/
xm.htm) in a few days.
Thanks Bill!
