Strange characters on serial if no screen connected

Hi,

I am writing this in hope someone already had the same problem as I
currently have :

I am running sakoman's R12 build on my beagleboard, and did the SD
card's configuration thanks to his (nice) script.

Today I noticed that if I remove the S-Video cable from the board, the
serial data I receive is transformed into random characters. I am
positive I did not have this bug when I first ran a regular Angstrom,
earlier this week. It is also unlikely I had it at the beginning of
using Sakoman's distrib, but I can't confirm that 100%.

I proceeded to formatting and reinstalling everything on the SD card,
but still get this strange 'bug'.

The only current connections to my board are the 5V DC and the serial
cable (and ofc the S-Video cable).

I am unsure as to what I should proceed to do next. What are my 'safe'
options for now, and in case those don't work, what unsafe moves could
I risk to not use the S-video cable (which I don't use anymore since I
did not figure out the correct bootargs on Sakoman's version, but did
on the previous version I used ...). I could try doing stuff on the
nand since everything else has sort of been ruled out, but it seems
bold without further knowledge at the moment.

Thanks for your help,
Guillaume Quéré
PS : sorry if you receive that multiple times, I prev. tried to send
it by my school's crappy webmail.

Check if the ground connection in your serial cable has broken, or the
ground pin has become damaged at one or the other end.
