Stuck on Starting Kernel on a modified BeagleBone Black

update : thank @RobertCNelson i tried with 4.19, logs appear but still no boot, here is what happens after the Starting Kernel :

  • Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
    • Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
    • Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
  • Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

Did you inherit this project? Do you have the source of core_tpm2_sa3_minus.dtb it should be in core_tpm2_sa3_minus.dts form…

If your device tree is built for 4.4.x and not updated for 4.19.x, that’s a number of things that will break…

Well, the good news… the *.dtb format is just a structure, so it’s simple to recompile… But that’s also the bad news, as when it was built, it was built against .dts/.dtsi include files will everything neatly defined and separated logically…

I’d really first try one last time finding the original 4.4.x build source.

Next, decompile your 4.4.x dtb and start rebuilding a new device tree in 4.19.x

PS, as long as you have a hardware schematic of your design too, this will be easier to rebuild…

i tried to recompile the dtb file in the new kernel using the same method in 6.6.32 same problem , rootfs doesnt mount, do you have any hint ? @RobertCNelson
But at least i managed to start kernel in 6.6

@RobertCNelson do you have any hints for me, for the root file system that doesnt mount, i regenerated the dtbs, checked the config file, nothing seems at least for me to be badly configured, but i cant solve why the file system isnt detected / mounted, regarding to the boot logs i can’t understand why

I was expecting these to be 4.19.x as you incremented tested 4.4.x → 4.19.x → 5.10.x… But if you want the pain of 4.4.x → 6.6.x:

First problem:

Thank you ! Atm the only main problem i have is about mounting the file system of the mmc

I did 4.4 to 4.19 but i had the same problem of detecting and mouting the fs as in 6.6 so i posted the 6.6 logs

I will change it to yes and report the logs, also the post you did about the dts file is problematic if i put config_mmc_sdhci_omap to yes for kernel 6.6 ?

4.4.x, 4.19.x, 5.4.x; used compatible = "ti,omap4-hsmmc";

5.10.x, mainline uses compatible = "ti,am335-sdhci";
