The "new" google groups

Hi Bill,

Thanks for responding,

I've recently figured out how to use GPIO as input and output without recompiling the kernel; this was a little tricky because most of the documentation refers to an earlier configuration in which many of the mux pins were configured in GPIO mode. This is no longer true, and I'd like to share my findings.

I keep my own notes here:

Your wiki has this page:

  http://elinux.org/GPIO

but I think for beginners being able to use GPIO without recompiling the kernel would be helpful.

Would it be appropriate for me to add some of my notes to the GPIO page?

Michael

I am setting up a Tiki Wiki at http://richardsnow.info that will have my notes
about my experiences with the BeagleBoard, and other people are
welcome to join.

It has just been set up with the collaborative community profile and
there is no content
at this moment.

Thanks for registering Michael

I believe that diversity is a strength of the open source community and I support whatever open source community I can.

I would be curious to know what need you see this filling that elinux.org/BeagleBoardBeginners does not.

Michael

The current wiki is fine, I have some cognitive problems as a result
of a head injury
and I sometimes make notes about things and leave them online so me or
others don't
have to reinvent the wheel.

Understood. I too keep notes in multiple places, including on my laptop (in rough form) and on my wiki (in slightly better organized form):

We are working on adding a User’s Guide section to the SRM. We have it laid out, just have not made a lot of progress on getting it populated. Hopefully for rev A6 it will be much improved!

What? The new UI is a major step backwards. It doesn’t add any features that I have seen and I don’t know of any features lacking in the old UI. It is full of bugs, it runs so slow that often my typing is faster than the “code” can keep up with. It lacks a number of features the old UI had, such as resizing the edit box to be able to see more than a couple dozen lines.

So why the heck would I want to spend my time documenting the bugs or learning to use this POS!??? I can’t even figure out how it is supposed to work to explain what is wrong! (anyone know how to tell what messages are replies to what?)

There are a number of options to this issue. Email is not one I find acceptable. A single email with dozens of messages I need to weed through is not an improvement.

I expect I will look for support elsewhere and will only come here when I have to contact the developers.

BTW, when I came here this time, I had to log back in and was taken to a main page instead of this group. There I found a link to “undo” the upgrade to the new interface and used it. But when I came to this group it was back to the “new” UI. WTF!!!?

Looks like google tries to unify user interface between services and
to make it more "bisiness-oriented". I liked the previous look more,
but IMHO the most convenient was the UI for google groups 2 or 3
iterations ago.

This can be a mistake. If people will complain, the missing features
should be added back.

Reporting problems with a new product is crucial for its development.
Without it developers will not know what the users need.

YMMV, but works fine for me.

All I can do is to wish you good luck.

It's looks like a bug which should be reported. There are groups where
users can report problems with google's services and which are read by
google's developers. This group is not one of them.

j.

Reporting the bug is easy actually. A very nice interface that takes a snapshot of the screen. I have done it about 100 times in the last 3 days. Now, getting someone to actually take care of it, that is another matter entirely!

That's great, but you could do all of that on elinux.org.

I don't see the header about using the new format and switching back to the old. I never used the link in the old
interface to switch to the new.

This is exactly why I can't stand this "new" interface. I was typing a reply and it suddenly took me back to the list
losing my message in the process! Talk about buggy!!!

I can't continue to use this interface and I don't wish to read it via email. There are far too many posts on topics I'm
not interested in. This group is not a newsgroup, but only a Google group, so it is not readable in a newsreader.

Any interest in switching to a functional group like Yahoo? Even the moderator can't get it to work!!!

and how much longer do you think Yahoo groups (or even Yahoo) will exist?

the new interface is very slow and completely UNUSABLE from a Smartphone ! was much more better with the old one.
