Ubuntu 11.04 Run's slow

I have C Rev3.

I have successfully installed and run this distribution using (https://
wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/OMAP) netbook images. However I find that the
applications run sluggish and it seems the hardware can't keep up.

My question is: Is there anything I can do to this netbook image to
improve my speed or should I find another distribution?

I have sifted many articles about speeding things up and here is what
I've seen:

Using JWM window manager.
Speeding up MPURATE = 720MHZ <----Can my C rev 3 board go that high?
I thought max was 600 Mhz.
Swapfile?

Thanks

BeagleBoard C3 can run 720MHz.

do you think that increasing the cpu clock by 20% would make a sluggish
system perform much better?

Swapfile?

might help a bit as the C3 has only 256MB...

Well I'm guessing it couldn't hurt. But it's probably not the only
change that needs to be made.

On the elinux/beagleboard wiki there is a quick section at the end
that says C rev 3 may need to use a window manager like Ice or JWM.
I've never used one of these, and wonder if I will still be able to
use all the apps provided with the 11.04 install. Any success with one
of these?

I also am running into a permission problem. The guide says to for C
rev 3 to change the boot.script to read mpurate=720.

However when I mount the media card with card reader I find I do not
have permission. Permission is set to root. I may telling my
inexperience but how do I change the boot.script file if I don't have
permission.

Thanks
