unable to boot beaglebone ai 64, rebooting nonstop,

I have flashed this image into the SD card : bbai64-debian-11.8-minimal-arm64-2023-10-07-4gb.img.xz

The boot is rewinding non stop, I have tried other images, it’s either the same issue or get stuck in some fixedregulator-sd probing.
I also tried using a different SD card, different images, but same issue.

bbai64 have BOOT Instead of USR, it’s like powering up and holding boot button to boot into mSD, I did both and still does not boot.

Okay, Hold the “BOOT” button, and toggle reset, this will force the BBAI64 to load R5 from the microSD’s u-boot..

I erased the emmc to make sure nothing from it is interrupting the mSD boot process.

I already did that many time and it did not work.

/dev/mmcblk0boot0 contains tiboot3.bin..

dd’ing the eMMC doesn’t clear that section..

I cleared it with mmc erase from uboot CLI, I don’t have access to linux CLI to use dd

Good point, depending on how old u-boot is, this command was setup: UBoot Commands to Wipe eMMC - #2 by RobertCNelson

(unless your on a mainline version of u-boot)..

I don’t have a board in front of me right, but let me at that to a todo list… update u-boot (eMMC) from u-boot…

I am not sure I understood your last sentence.
I erased the eMMC.
Right now I use two mSD cards with different images, I get the same results, u-boot spl interrupting the boots process and rebooting on and on …
And tiboot3.bin is also in the mSD boot partition.

is this due to cdns-mhdp8546 drive initialization issue ? I Think the kernel is stuck and triggers some timeout that restarts it.

I’m sharing a link to a yocto image for BB-AI64, If anyone can check on their board will be appreciated.
driver initialization is getting interrupted by u-boot over and over.
I have tried different SD cards with images from BB. all are either stuck in driver initialization or rebooting while initializing.

Hi, I have reason to believe that this behavior may be due to a hardware problem.

I saw this exact same boot loop behavior recently on a bbai64 that was damaged by a lightning strike. Its emmc was flashed with a 2023 image and I wanted to flash the latest. Nothing would work, I held the boot button, etc. After many attempts, I left it idle for about 10 minutes while reading a help file and suddenly, the larson scanner pattern started up… and the board flashed. After it was flashed, I noted that the ethernet hardware was not detected so I suspect it was damaged. A second bba64 that was disconnected during the power event behaved properly and flashed perfectly with 2025-06-30 xfce image residing on a SanDisk 64GB Ultra Plus. The flasher image was written to the microSD with the BeagleBoard Imager v0.0.12.
