Unable to mount external hard disk or pendrive on Ubuntu ported onto Devkit8000

hi i had ported ubuntu 9.10 with xfce4 based desktop environment…i am unable to do the following

  1. whenever i tried to connect an pendrive or an external hard disk to an HUB it say cant mount that device. But my keyboard and mouse(both usb) connected to the hub works fine.
  2. I am unable to open browser it throws IO Error.
    kindly help me…
