USB Device not enumerated for self powered HS USB hub

Hi,

I am working on BB for the past couple of days. I am trying to boot
the BB with Angstrom 2009.X-stable version from the link
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/.

The boot screen comes up perfectly with the Angstrom logo and screen
for entering username and password in DVI monitor. I have connected a
USB HS compliant hub (http://www.rosewill.com/products/s_1289/
productDetail.htm) that is self powered to the C4 Rev of BB's USB Host
connector P7. But for some reason the USB hub and hence the keyboard
and mouse connected to the hub do not get enumerated.

I am attaching the log file in the serial session during booting for
your reference. I have been working on this particular issue for the
past 36 hours with no success. Please help me resolve this.

Hi all,

As posted recently by some of the others, I also have the same problem
(see the below). I have the latest u-boot.bin and uImage files......

I would request your help guys.........

Thanks,

Hi all,

As posted recently by some of the others, I also have the same problem
(see the below). I have the latest u-boot.bin and uImage files......

I would request your help guys.........

<snip>

Starting Dropbear SSH server: [ 40.569519] ipv6: disagrees about
version of symbol struct_module
modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting ipv6 (/lib/modules/2.6.29-omap1/
kernel/net/ipv6/ipv6.ko): Invalid module format

modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting ipv6 (/lib/modules/2.6.29-omap1/
kernel/net/ipv6/ipv6.ko): Invalid module format

I wouldn't expect it to work after this... The otg host port is
loaded as a module late in the boot process in angstrom...

Make sure your modules match your uImage:

http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/

Regards,

Hi

I ensured that I have the same uImage, kernel and module versions as
suggested by you.......

I downloaded from the link http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/

the following files: 1. Angstrom-Beagleboard-demo-image-glibc-
ipk-2009.X-stable-20090612--beagleboard.rootfs.tar.bz2
2. MLO
3. u-boot.bin
4. x-load.bin.ift
5. uImage-2.6.29-r47-beagleboard.bin
6. modules-2.6.29-r47-beagleboard.tgz

(All these files are in the home page of the link above)......I used
gparted to partition my SD card (8 GB) into 2 partitions........

Still no joy........Same problem of USB EHCI Host port (NOT USB OTG
host) still unable to detect the Hub with keyboard and mouse in
it........

SOmebody please help...........I am now stuck at this for the past 2
days without any luck so far...........

Thanks,
Ramasamy Gopalan.

Oh, thought it was the OTG port, as that's usually the problem..

Stick your 'hub' into another linux pc and run 'lsusb' is it actually
an 'USB 2.0 Hub'?

Regards,

Hi Robert,

I connected the hub with keyboard and mouse into another Ubuntu based
PC and ran the cmd lsusb........

it is an USB 2.0 Hub.........

Any thoughts on how to go forward? Actually, an
observation........There is an LED in the USB hub that is designed to
be ON when the hub is connected to a PC's USB port.......When I
connect it BB, it remains for the initial period of booting and it
goes off probably sometime when there is a statement "unable to
enumerate USB device in port 2".......

Thanks,
Ramasamy Gopalan.

IMHO, the hub has to be only a high-speed hub (low-speed, full-speed hubs won't work). Anyway, trust this is taken care of too.

Yes it is a USB 2.0 High Speed hub…It is also compliant to USB 1.1 low and full speeds… (this is the specs of the hub i am using http://www.rosewill.com/products/s_1289/productDetail.htm

Thanks
Ramasamy Gopalan.

Hi

It is loading the EHCI Host driver and detecting the ports i guess, but for some reason it does not enumerate…

Guys,

Please help me out........I have been toiling with this for the past 2
days without any progress at all...........

The USB hub is not getting enumerated still................

Please guys........Provide some solution for me............

Thanks,
Ramasamy Gopalan.

Hi Ramasany,

I'm not real good at troubleshooting, but:

Maybe you can also try a different self-powered USB hub on the Beagle.

Why is your boot script not being read? What boot arguments are you using? I think you should try to use bootscripts and know what the bootargs are.

Hi Bob,

I also have problem to detect my mouse. I follow you to use same
files, but it would be stuck in kernel since ramdis.gz is not included
in /dev/mmcblk0p1/ . Then I include it, when I plug in usb mouse, it
dsiplays
root@beagleboard:~# hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on
port 2

Any idea?
my boot goes well as follows

guys...this may seem silly...but, try booting your board without any
peripheral attached to it...then, plug the peripherals..

I tried this with android OS…

whenever i plug the USB device (hub) after booting, it says “unable to enumerate USB device”…

I looked at boot message. maybe we use OHCI USB device, if we can
rebuild the kernel including OHCI driver, it may work.

OHCI will not work on Beagle, you must use EHCI (high speed).

Just so it doesn't get taken the wrong way - you can still use LS/FS devices, but they must be connected via a powered HS hub.
