Hi.. I'm new here so first of all I wish to say a big "hello" the the
community.
Now .. to the problem..
I recently bought a Beagleboard rev C4 and all seems to works... exept
HDMI (I don't have the adapter to test)
USB host (not the OTG).
I can boot the BB from SD (2Gb kingstone) without problem (I've
installed the Angstrom),
but when i insert a usb periferal i cant see it...
lsusb only show the two linux hub, but no usb pendrive or external
hub... is this an hardware problem or are there
software solutions??
Thanks for the help!
The HOST port is High Speed only. If you want to connect a low or full speed device, like a keyboard or a mouse, you must connect through a USB HUB. On the OTG port, you must ground the ID pin, either by using a 5 pin cable that has the ID pin grounded, or shorting the ID pin by using the shorting pad on the back of the board.
Gerald
Thanks for the reply
I tried using external hub with power supply but i can't get the BB to
recognise the external hardware.
BB can't recognise neither the hub...
here is the log of the boot procedure:

In this thest a USB hub was connected before BB was powered on.
I tried also the newest kernel e rootfs from Angstrom (2010) but get
the same results...
Is there a validation test only for the USB host port?
Thanks for the support!
Sorry for the double post but I've news.
I've updated the version of the Angtrom distro to the latest
version...
First: the u-boot.bin (2010 version) don't works: it hangs during boot
at I2C: ready message.
Second: if I boot up using a normal usb cable to power the BB I get
kernel panic.
Third: if I boot using an external power source, i can reach the
login promp... I can login normally but lsusb show 2 hubs (equals VID
& PID) but I can't any external USB device attached (???)
This behaviors are equals on 2 Beagleboards rev C4… so now… does
anyone use this version (rev 4C) and has the USB function properly???
If yes… how to set up angstrom or any other distro?
Thanks
Your MLO is too old, use the 1.4.4 one.
regards,
Koen
Yes.. I know, double post isn't a good thing ad triple-post is worst
but i solved.
The problem was the u-boot.bin.
The ones taken from the guide at http://code.google.com/p/beagleboard/wiki/BeagleboardRevC3Validation
is the only that enabled the usb.
Now... with that all the usb works;)
The main problem is that the u-boot.bin at the Angstrom website can't
boot... but at least.. now... I know it!
Jeff,
u-boot works fine. You just need to hold the USER button during the boot
2010/7/6 Jeff Malcom <cyberswordman@gmail.com>
Thanks for the suggestion.
But I've tried and it doesn't work...
As far as I know, the USER button on startup tell the BB to start with
the file USER.SCR ,but I don't have such file in the mmc.
Is it mandatory?
Well, on the Rev C4 board it forces a boot from the SD card instead of the NAND and has nothing to do with the user.scr functiuon unless you push the button AFTER the boot process has startted. I am not sure that the user button option to force a boot script switch works on Rev C4. I have seen some people having issues with that feature.
Gerald
Now that you make me think about it.. you're right about the USER
button.
But now I can't see why I need to push the USER button to make the
latest u-boot to boot correctly (thinks that don't happen even with
the USER button pressed during and after the boot).
Perhaps I miss the correct timing?
(O.T. to the moderators: since the USB question is closed.. is it
better to continue this discussion bout u-boot in another thread?)
Thanks for the support!
You only need to push the user button to force a boot from the SD card. If you have flashed a newer version of the UBoot into NAND, then it will boot from the NAND. It all depends on where the UBoot version that you wish to use is located.
If you like, it would make sense to start a second discussion on this issue so the title is more appropriate.
