What do I gain/lose by flashing ubuntu to replace angstrom?

I just got my first BBB. I know ubuntu pretty well, and I’m an experienced programmer, but I don’t know this board or angstrom at all, yet. My first project is to get a weather server going with weewx. It can apparently be done under angstrom, but it seems tricky at best, and there’s a deb pkg available that makes it easy under ubuntu, so I’m considering going to ubuntu. However, after playing with the board a bit, there are some pretty cool things in the stock distro. So, I’m wondering which of those are also in ubuntu, or can be added. Specifically:

  • Does it work via usb, either as a usb storage device, or via the network interface?
  • Is there a nice BBB home page on the device?
  • Is BoneScript available?
  • Is Cloud9, or some similar environment for boneScript, available?
Also, is the only way to move to ubuntu by plugging in a monitor and kb? I don’t have an hdmi monitor easily available, but I’m sure I can find one if necessary.

Thanks?

There is a link on the card that came in the box with the board that links to the following page.

Yes, it works as a storage device.

Board ships with Cloud9 and Bonescript.

My question is about what happens after flashing ubuntu. Still work as a storage device, and via the usb “network”? How do I get bonescript / cloud9 working under ubuntu?
