Which is the latest Angstom Distro?

I’m quite new to Linux and I have to say I am having a fun time getting used to it all

I was wondering which is the latest Angstrom Distribution and where should I be looking to get the latest distro from for my BBB?

I have found the following 2 locations with different distros, so am pretty confused.

  1. This page - http://downloads.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beaglebone/ (What is a demo file?)

  2. Or the one from this page - http://circuitco.com/support/index.php?title=Updating_The_Software which links to here - https://s3.amazonaws.com/angstrom/demo/beaglebone/BBB-eMMC-flasher-2013.09.04.img.xz

I tried 2) and it does not a UI…which I think is called gnome?..I need a distro that boots into a UI.

The latest official release is found at http://circuitco.com/support/index.php?title=Updating_The_Software which is the 9_4 image. Make sure you use th eFlasher version. That flashes the eMMC. But it has no GUI until after it flashes the eMMC and you power cycle the board. As the instructions say, it take about 45 minutes for the flashing process.

The webpage is out of date as usual. Stick to the Wiki.

Thanks Gerald,

That’s the one I have installed, I flashed the eMMC and know it was successful at it had 4 solid LEDs at the end of the process and when I rebooted it was different install. And yep, I have rebooted a number of times and still no UI…is there something else I need to do?

I have done the opkg upgrade install stuff…do I need to install a specific module or something?

Glenn.

Did you :

-remove power
-remove the SD card

  • plug power back in?

Gerald

Thanks!!..that did the trick, I had left the SD card in…I thought it only booted off the SD if you held the boot button down while booting.

Anyway, now to see if this latest distro has fixed my wifi and display issues.

Glenn

I do that all the time! If you leave it in, it starts all over again!
