I have modified /etc/network/interfaces with my network’s ssid and password, it looks like this:

GNU nano 2.2.6 File: /etc/network/interfaces
#hwaddress ether DE:AD:BE:EF:CA:FE

The secondary network interface

#auto eth1
#iface eth1 inet dhcp

# WiFi Example
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid "homeNet"
wpa-psk "h0mes1stem5"

Ethernet/RNDIS gadget (g_ether)

Used by: /opt/scripts/boot/autoconfigure_usb0.sh

iface usb0 inet static
address 192.168.7.2
netmask 255.255.255.252
network 192.168.7.0
gateway 192.168.7.1

but after running “ifup wlan0”, I get this:

root@beaglebone:~# ifup wlan0

Off-hand -- make sure your router is configured as a DHCP server AND
has available IPs to hand out (it may be DHCP, but if it was configured to
only use a pool of, say, 5 IPs and you have other devices on the system it
won't have any IPs to pass to the BBB)

My router currently shows four cabled and five wireless leases -- which
would go up by one each if I turn on the TV and other printer. It is
currently configured to only allow 20 "users".
